"Original" Artwork

Some people don't believe in the paint by number kits.  They say it's knocking off original art and not staying true to the integrity of the piece.  Which is true to some extent.  I still believe that no matter how many different people attempt the same piece of art it will always come out different.  So in effect it is an "original".  The part that I still don't have a firm opinion about is the "original idea".  Part of what you pay for when you purchase a piece of original artwork is the original concept.  So that's where the controversy lies.

There's a web site that offers free downloads of artwork from various artists.  The artists have agreed to post their pieces for free.  I found some really good-looking ones however when I printed them they didn't have the quality I was hoping for.  And since I wanted to make them extra big I knew the quality was going to be even worse once I blew them up.

Soooo....I decided to take matters into my own hands and reproduce my favorite painting onto a large canvas of my own.  Since I wasn't going to sell it for profit, or even give it away as a gift, I figured I wasn't doing anything against what the artist originally intended for the art when they placed it on the web site.  I borrowed my friend's projector and traced the image onto the canvas with a pencil.  Then I proceeded to paint.  It was very tedious and I had to work really slow to make sure I was staying in the lines and of course I don't have all the nice equipment and set up as a real artists (ie: brushes, easel, lighting, good paints, etc.) but I still feel that for my first attempt at something like this it turned out pretty good!

My rendition

Now that it's finished it is hanging nicely in our bathroom which had been (and still kinda does) feeling quite neglected.
