Sledding
It's pretty cool that the kids can get their sledding fix in our backyard. No need to haul out to a hill somewhere. Although we have gone over to the school a few times to hit up the really big hills, which is way fun too.

Two Days Before Christmas
We've all been hoping for a white Christmas this year. Unfortunately the weather forecast is not looking good. Looks like we'll have to settle for the sparse snow leftover in the shady areas. Oh well, at least the kids can still get out and play together without freezing their tails off. It's another great thing I love about Colorado. Only two more days until Christmas!!! So excited!

Halloween 2016
We had another great Halloween this year. Our neighbors, the Braegger's, who are also in our ward, totally go all out for Halloween every year. Their house is always amazing.
Dallin couldn't decide what he wanted to be this year, or if he even really wanted to go trick-or-treating at all. At the last minute he finally decided to go and threw a costume together at the last minute. Once Kenzie saw the Rey costume she knew she wanted to be Rey from Star Wars VII this year. I'm kicking myself that I didn't take a picture of Kenzie's hair, it took me about five tries to get it right, sort of...oh well! Lulu dug through our costume bin and fell in love with Rex the dinosaur (from Toy Story) costume. Gennie had a plethora of options to chose from. She couldn't chose just one so she decided to be Rapunzel for trick-or-treating and Minnie Mouse for preschool. Sadie didn't want to have anything to do with any of the costumes at all! But I forced her into the fairy costume that all three of her sisters wore.

General Conference
I tried something new for General Conference this year. I put a picture of each of the 12 apostles and the first presidency on a brown paper sack. Inside each sack was either a coloring page or an activity or a treat to eat. Each time that particular general authority spoke they got to open his sack to see what was inside. It actually worked out really good (you never know!!) and it kept the kids interest.
The funny thing about it was, Lulu somehow peeked in the bags and found out that one of them had beef jerky inside, her favorite! Every time a new apostle spoke she would ask if this was the beef jerky guy which happened to be Elder Renlund. As it turns out, Elder Renlund was the VERY LAST speaker on Sunday afternoon! It was hilarious, and purely coincidence.

Random Happenings
Sometimes I can convince Lulu to ride the "rocket bike" with training wheels. She still much prefers her "fast bike" which is one of those plastic tricycles. She goes turbo-fast on that thing but she's quickly out-growing it. Hopefully she'll build up some confidence on the two wheeler and soon she'll realize she can go even faster on it!
Sadie loves to zoom on her bus. We were out enjoying one of the last warm and sunny days outside.
Gennie got ahold of some markers and decided to turn herself into a tiger. She called herself "Tiger the Gennie" not Gennie the Tiger it had to be "Tiger the Gennie" then she proceeded to growl and roar at me showing off her teeth and clawing with her hands.

Dancing in the Rain
Grrr...I was SO MAD!
Lulu had soccer practice tonight and the weather was looking a little dreary but the coach never emailed or texted to cancel. I figured he was going to stick it out. So I got Lulu all geared up for practice (no easy feat) and got the rest of the kids bundled up and equipped with entertainment for the hour long practice (no easy feat) and drove over to the practice field.
Sure enough we get there and NO COACH! Aaagghh! I was so mad! Then I checked my phone. He cancelled practice THREE MINUTES BEFORE PRACTICE WAS SUPPOSED TO START! Who does that?!? Seriously!!
So we went back home and got out of the car and the kids danced in the rain and made me forget how mad I was at the coach.

Mountain Vacation
We were bound and determined to go camping this summer but when it came down to it, I just couldn't bring myself to go. So I hopped on the internet last minute hoping to find a cabin in the mountains that didn't cost a fortune. I found a little cabin near Cripple Creek, CO. It's an old mining town that is now transformed into a casino town. However, they still have a few operating mines and one gold mine that is open for tours. We decided to invite Grandma and Grandpa Pratt for the first night of our two night stay. It was way fun and glad we were able to get out into the mountains.
We did the gold mine tour that takes you 1,000 feet down into the ground via a shaft about the size of a telephone booth. All 9 of us crammed into that shaft for two minutes as it descended down into the mine. It was quite the experience! It was a very interesting tour and we learned a lot about mining in the old days and how dangerous it was.
We also poked around a small museum and visitor's center located just down from the mine. Dallin was excited because he had just finished learning about Colorado history in fourth grade and this museum was all about CO and the state symbols and animals.
Later, we took a train ride to see some of the old mines that are no longer in operation as well as the "million dollar track" that is full of unrefined gold. They say it's worth a million dollars but would cost 4 million to extract and refine it! So there it sits!
We also played some games and a few activities from the cabin as well as relaxed and enjoyed.
The morning we packed up, the kids were outside the cabin exploring around. At one point Gennie got upset about something, I can't even remember what it was. She was crying and got mad and I just shrugged it off as typical three-year-old behavior. I remember talking to her for a second and then walked back into the cabin to keep packing. A few minutes later Charlie asked where's Gennie? I said she was just outside with the rest of them. He didn't see her, nor did anyone else. We looked and looked but she was nowhere to be seen. We called her name over and over again but not a sound. I think it ended up being about 8-10 minutes later Charlie finally found her crying on the side of the dirt road that led further up away from the cabin.
It was terrifying as you can imagine. Apparently, when she initially got mad and was crying she was trying to run back to the cabin but got turned around. Later we found out that Lulu "saw a girl walking away but thought it was a different girl, not Gennie!" Oh my!! Anyway, lessons learned and happy ending.
On the ride back home we stopped at Manitou Springs to tour the cliff dwellings. It was pretty cool, the kids had a blast playing and running around through all the rooms and crawl spaces.
