Grandma's Cook Book

Back when I was in college my cousin Wendy called me up and told me she had some of Grandma's things and wanted to know if I wanted any of it. I jumped at the opportunity and soon I was pilfering through a bunch of her belongings, mostly kitchen items. I remember taking a Pyrex dish (which has since been donated to the missionaries by mistake), two wooden monkey pod bowls, her microwave, and a nice marble rolling pin. The last item I took, the one that intrigued me the most, was this cook book.I noticed, how could you not, that it was well loved and well used. Surely there would be some great eating found in these pages. She obviously referenced this book a lot! I love that she wrote all over it. She has on the front cover all her favorite recipes found in the book as well as a list of recipes to try. She even put some notations on some of the recipes themselves with changes she made to them. Some of them say "good" next to them. I just love it!
I love that I have this little piece of my grandmother. Growing up so far away from her, I didn't get the opportunity to really know my grandma. I enjoyed the visits we had together but they were so few and far between. I remember one visit she made she tried to teach me how to crochet. I was probably only 12 years old and my interest in crocheting at the time was nonexistent. Now, I'd give anything to sit down with her and learn from the master herself. To learn how she made her hand dipped chocolates, hand quilts, and perfect homemade bread...it's funny how I've changed. But I have this little piece of her and I'm excited to dig in and try some of these recipes that she enjoyed. It makes me feel connected to her in a weird sort of way...well Charlie thinks I'm weird...I think it's beautiful!
PS
I've already tried one. I've posted it to my recipe blog at prattliferecipe.blogspot.com

There's more cookbooks where those came from. :) Glad you're enjoying them too.
