Dogs

A few weeks ago we came home from Sam's Club to see a little black dog pacing the sidewalk in front of our house. It looked pretty mangy but the kids of course wanted to take it in and make it part of the family. It didn't have any tags so we just said no, leave the dog alone and get back in the house. Well, they go in the house and directly to the front window to watch the dog who was still hanging out by our house. So then the kids go back out and want to give it a drink of water so I said fine, we'll give it some water. Then Charlie comes out and is laughing at me for giving in to the children by giving the dog some water. The kids want to feed it some food so Charlie brings out a piece of bread since we don't have any dog food. The dog eats it right up and starts to feel more comfortable around us. It's getting later and the kids need to get to bed so we go inside and the dog moves from the street sidewalk to our porch walk closer to the house. It lays down and makes itself comfortable. Before we went to bed at midnight it was still out there! Luckily it was gone by morning.

Then, if that wasn't enough. I went for a walk a week later and this big huge poodle mix looking thing follows me all the way home! I didn't have the heart to just leave it, I didn't want it to get hit by a car or something so I put him in the backyard behind the fence. Luckily it had tags and I immediately called the owners to let them know I had their dog. They didn't even realize the dog had escaped, nice! In the meantime Dallin and Kenzie are playing with it and loving it and again wanting to keep it. When the owner came to get it, Kenzie cried and cried.

I don't know what it is all of a sudden! These dogs are out to get me! And you know whenever I go someplace that has a dog, the dog always finds me first. It's like they know I don't care for them so they have to smother me and sniff me and lick me and leave their hair all over me. As if to say, there now don't you just love me? NO!! I hate you even more!! Kidding. I don't hate dogs, I just don't particularly care to have one take over my house and disrupt my life.

My family totally disagrees with me on this topic though. They all want to have a dog and love them to pieces. Kenzie goes as far as pretending to be a dog on a daily basis. When her little friends come to play she is always the dog and her friend is the owner. Charlie grew up with dogs and wants his own children to have the same joy and experiences that he did. However, talking to Mom Pratt you get the other side of the story!

So will I give in to my family or will I stand firm in my resolve? The verdict is still out there. I'm secretly hoping that I can keep delaying it and delaying it until the idea wears off. Somehow I don't think it will work for as long as I'm hoping.

You may want to re think whether or not you would like to stay at our place then.... Bogey will melt your heart and change your mind for sure.... and your kids will be even more adamant about having a dog! You know me, and what a clean freak I am, and I LOVE my little guy. They just change your home. They add a dimension to your life that you didn't even know could be there, and because we didn't have that when we grew up, you don't realize it... but you will!

I agree with you. Dogs are cute when they belong to someone else! Hope you get feeling better soon :)

Stay strong!! Take my experience to heart ... the "we'll take care of it" speech the kids and husband will give you .... will turn in to "we'll take care of it maybe once a week" and YOU'll be the one taking care of it everyday! On top of the baby, other kids, etc. Picking up poop in your beautiful new yard, just doesn't sound fun! Stay strong and get the kids some stuffed dogs!

Roxy has told me of the dogs' plan against you....they will smother you with love! I bet you'll cave in. All it takes is the right dog to melt your cold heart :o)

We just played with 8 absolutely adorable little puppies and the kids were dying to take one home of course, but I know myself well enough to know that there's not a snowball's chance that we are getting a dog. My hands are full enough at the moment. I grew up with a dog (she stayed outside) and I LOVED her and Trent grew up with an indoor dog and LOVED her and neither of us want a dog...at all. Stay strong! ;o)

Just get a dog! The kids love them and you will too and they they will be a protector for your family. Just pick the right one and train it well and it will be worth it! I love our dog especially when keith is gone she makes me feel safe!
