My sister-in-law, Emily, gave me this dresser right before they made their big move to California. I'll tell you, this dresser has been through a lot! My nephew used it in his bedroom and put his own artistic touches on it with a ball point pen. Then later as it was waiting in my garage for me to fix it up my dad used it to stable a piece of wood on while he sawed it and accidentally sawed off part of the corner! Then someone put a jar of liquid of some sort on top and stained a few rings into it. Needless to say I had my work cut out for me! Sanding and sanding and sanding some more. The cut my dad made was surprisingly easy to repair and I got all the pen drawings off and even most of the liquid stains came off. I changed out the hardware, replaced the cabinet fronts with glass, spray painted the hinges and screws, and stained it a dark walnut. I think it looks like a completely different piece of furniture!
Things I learned from this project:
Don't judge how it looks by the first coat of stain.
Tack cloth is awesome for cleaning up dust.
Don't waste money on expensive brushes, cheap sponge ones work just as well.
Go for the polystain, it combines the stain and the polyurethane into one and saves lots of time.

I knew you could make something great out of that! Great job!
Where are you going to put it? you need to post a photo of it in it's new environment! I love that you maintained a vision, and with a little elbow grease and a few...several... hours,it paid off! Way to go sis!
Very Cute....I have a whole bedroom set you can work on for me.
