I was out of clean socks for Kenzie so I put some of Dallin's socks on her but she was NOT happy about that. After I convinced her that she wouldn't even know the difference and she couldn't even see them once her boots were on she finally conceded. However, once she was all dressed and we were ready to head out the door she says, "Mom you know why I'm walking so slow? It's because I have boy socks on." And proceeds to walk as slow as a snail staring down at her feet.
Kenzie is such a funny little thing. She makes us laugh daily! She has such a strong will but can be very compassionate at the same time. She's always the first to say she's sorry or thank you. She will often be the one to concede whenever there is a dispute between siblings. But at the same time she can be so dead set on something it's really hard to convince her otherwise.
Kenzie is so attached to her blanky that Grandma Linda made her years ago that it has gone from a soft colorful blanket to a ratted doesn't-matter-how-much-you-wash-it-it'll-never-get-clean blanket. Charlie & I were sick of the disgusting thing laying around and being dragged around all over the house. So it was actually Charlie's idea to cut the blanket to make it smaller. That way we'd have a small disgusting thing laying around instead of this large entity. I didn't think it would work and I never thought Kenzie would agree to it. But we talked to her about it and she finally agreed to it. She hovered over me the entire time and went through a variety of emotions all the while. At first it was exciting to see the blanket untied and then we spread it out and wow, look how crooked and misshapen it got over the years. Then the scissors came out and there was a little bit of despair and a few tears. Finally it was all done and the "new" smaller blanket was all tied and finished. When I presented it to her to my surprise she REJECTED it!! How could she not like the blanket? It's the same exact thing, same material, just cut smaller!! But nope, it didn't have the same "softies and rubbies" on it. So what did she do? She dug through the trash and got the strips that I had cut off the original blanket. Now instead of this large disgusting blanket she has a strip of a blanket that looks like a scarf that she carries around. I wished I would have known this a lot earlier.
Along with her blanky she has her two fingers. The blanky is not without the fingers, they go hand in hand. She will suck on her fingers while she rubes her blanky under her nose. It's totally a comfort thing for her. The rule has always been that blanky stays at home, it doesn't come with us to drop Dallin off at school, or to the grocery store, or to church. But you can't say that about the fingers! I get concerned that she's touching all these germs and then pops her fingers into her mouth. I've thought about making her wear gloves while we're out and about. When we took her to the dentist I talked to him about her finger sucking and he said her mouth or teeth have not been impacted by it, so that was reassuring. I guess we'll just let it go for now and see what happens down the line.
