Sand Dunes

On June 1 our friends, the Deters, asked us to join them for a day in the sun at the sand dunes.  It's a two hour drive south of here.  So we packed up for the day and headed down.  When we first got there we set up our shade tents and chairs then the kids were excited to sled down the sand hills so away they went.  I stayed behind with Alayna & Roxy (we are dog sitting for Ellen) & got lunch ready.  I was surprised at how big the "mountains" of sand.  The report when they got back about 30 minutes later was that the sand was so hot the kids started crying.  Charlie finally convinced Kenzie to go down the hills on the sled with him but the two of them just sat there not going anywhere.  Kenzie said it was because Dad was too fat!  And then Dallin was freaking out because his feet were on fire.  Needless to say our adventure had a pretty rough start.  But once our mud hole that we dug out filled in with some water the kids took on new enthusiasm & were entertained for hours.  Tiig had a blast digging and getting all sandy, while Kenzie bossed the dog around, and Dallin and Finn got caught up in their little "world" they had created (not sure exactly what they were pretending).  After bit we packed up & headed for our hike to the waterfall.  If the sand was like fire, this water to the waterfall was like ice!  It was so refreshing at first but quickly became uncomfortably cold.  It was worth it though because it was so beautiful.  Our day together ended with some yummy pizza and an ice cream cone on the way out.  It ended up being a great day and made it even more fun to spend it with great friends.
