Fireworks in a Jar

I found this idea on Pinterest...yes, I jumped on that bandwagon.  There was a link to this web site with loads of ideas to do with kids.  Kenz and I tried out this one the other day.  It was fascinating!

You fill a clear glass jar or pitcher with water.  Then pour in some vegetable oil until you have about 1/2 inch on the top of the water.  Squeeze a few drops of yellow food coloring into the pitcher.  It will sit on the top of the oil for a bit until it eventually breaks free and spills out into the water making these pretty "fireworks" in the water.  Once you've have fun with yellow you can move onto red but make sure you do the darker colors last.

Have fun!
